In late 2015, a house was bulldozed in downtown Pensacola. Little did the previous residents know but they had been living on what was once one of our earliest European settlements, dating back 456 years ago. It took a historian, sifting through the dirt beneath the wreckage, to locate a shard of Spanish pottery, proving that this spot was indeed the location of Don Tristán de Luna y Arellano’s colony.
Pensacola claims a wild and rich heritage, the historic home to not only the Spanish, but, at different points in history, the French, the British and the Confederate States of America as well. We no longer refer to Pensacola Bay as the Bay of Ochuse as Luna did, although plying the seas in big ships is still a fact of life for many of the residents of what is today known as the Cradle of Naval Aviation. But defense isn’t our sole big industry; tourism is thriving as well, as folks from all over the world visit the white sandy beaches of Pensacola, Florida.
The Escambia County School District serves the public school students that live in Pensacola. The district administers 33 elementary schools, nine middle schools, seven high schools and 19 alternative schools.

Private schools in the city include Pensacola Catholic High School and Pensacola Christian Academy.
Your kids won’t necessarily need to leave the area to continue their education because the University of West Florida, Pensacola State College, University of West Florida and Pensacola Christian College are all nearby.
